As part of Solarize Freeport, Insource Renewables installed an 8.4kW roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system for a young family in South Freeport. The system was sized to offset 90-100% of the electricity consumed on-site.
The system is the first in a series of expected energy improvements. The owners intend to transition much of their heating needs to electric-based appliances, including a heat pump water heater and mini-split heat pumps. As their demand increases, they expect to expand the system onto the roof of the garage.
One design consideration for this system is the owners’ interest in the Tesla Powerwall, an advanced lithium-ion battery that can provide short-term electricity storage and manage the export of electricity from the PV system. The Powerwall was not available at the time of the installation, but Insource Renewables selected a SolarEdge SE7600A-US inverter that will be easily modified for integration with the Tesla offering.
